About Us

Welcome!

The Little Roses Day Care & Pre-School was founded on 3 January 2003, meaning the school has been in existence for more than a decade. During this period we have continued to take great care of children, developing and preparing them so that they are ready for primary school when the time comes. Our children are taught important life lessons and good values from the start, such to wash their hands before and after seating, to respect all human beings, regardless of their religion, gender, race or creed.

Our Story

* In September 2002 research was made after four children were bumped by cars two survived and two passed away. The result of the research indicated that all those four children are from disadvantaged background families as there are two ECD Sites around but they were so expensive for poor families to afford. Then Mpho Isabel Komana and the community saw a need for an ECD Site to be established but that ECD Site must be affordable and reasonable for poor families to afford it.

The organization named The Little Roses Day Care & Pre-School was founded on the 3rd of January 2003 by Mpho Komana, the principal of the organization and the community, which makes part of the management committee of the organization. It started with one child with a physical special need at Rochester House, 36 Maritzburg Street, Jeppestown. The building was evicted in June next year at that time the organization was having forty –five children and on the process of registering with social services as a non-profit organization. When they moved to Park Street children dropped out and only fifteen were left. But because of the passion and love for the children of the founders, the organization moved to number 15 Park Street in Jeppestown and operated there for nine months but they never lose hope they kept on looking for a better space for their children. Then in 2005, the organization moved to 275 main street where it is situated currently. It has been in existence for more than 15 years and takes good care of children, developing them and preparing them for school readiness. It doesn’t only develop children holistically but also teaches them about life and good values e.g banking money, respecting everyone despite of her/his religion gender or race, hand washing before touching food and other things.

The little roses started with nothing. No knowledge of running a preschool, no financial backup, no resources, no coach, no mentor, and no adviser but only a matric certificate and a passion

and love for children. Seeing those children bumped by cars was unbearable, but it gave birth to something good which is the establishment of The little roses daycare and pre-school.

Programs

The babies’ class.

The babies’ class has its milk kitchen where babies’ bottles and meals are prepared and their medications only from the doctors are stored in the fridge. This accommodates only six children according to the norms and standards of the Department of Health and the teacher-child ratio given by the Department of social development.

Toddlers to Grade-R

Toddlers, 2-3 years 3-4 years,4-5 years and grade-R classes are laid out in three areas which are numeracy, literacy and life skills. Materials, resources or the learning and teaching support material are laid at the children’s level. This is done to help children choose the materials they want to use, the area they want to work in and the activity they want to do. It teaches children to be responsible and boosts their self-esteem at the same time.

Meal areas

The organization has a dining hall where children eat breakfast, morning and afternoon snacks and lunch, which is part of life skill education. They are taught that you sleep in a bedroom, eat in the dining room, cook in the kitchen and other. It also has a central kitchen where food for all children from other classes is stored, prepared and ready to be eaten.

Events

Children learn through playing if you want children to enjoy learning don’t make their learning formal as they still need to be developed and prepared for school readiness.
